I have never tried a meal delivery service before, mostly because I do enjoy grocery shopping and cooking. During this holiday season with travel and other responsibilities our lives have gotten busy and I found that we were ordering in a lot more than usual. I decided this would be a perfect time to try a meal delivery service. After doing some research I decided on Territory Foods. I decided on them because they use local chefs, have nutritionist input and make clean, healthy meals. Their independent chefs work in their own fully certified commercial kitchens. They have amazing sourcing partners who provide sustainably sourced, real ingredients. They also never use ingredients containing gluten, dairy, or added nitrates. This all sounded SO wonderful to me and also the price was right. It is about $14 a meal, which is way less than we were spending eating out.
I went on their website to get started and pick my meals. You select a plan based on your appetite, lifestyle and taste. You can select certain ingredients you want to avoid and also different nutritional approaches you may have like paleo, macro balance, low fat, low carb, expecting moms, Mediterranean or whole-30. They basically have options for everyone.
When ordering your meals, the first step is picking which portion size fits you best. There is either BOOST (250-450 cals) or STANDARD (400-650 cals). Then you pick your delivery days. You can do early week (3 days of meals delivered on Monday), late week (2 days of meals delivered on Thursday), or all week (5 days of meals delivered Monday and Thursday). You also pick which types of meals you want, breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. You then go through and pick which type of plan you would like to follow whether that is paleo, macro balance or whatever fits you best. After that there is a search filter where you can select foods you want to avoid. You can either have the meals delivered to your home for a small delivery fee or pick them up at local gyms.
Once you get all of these selections taken care of it brings you to your plan and to finish placing your order. It gives you a list of meals in your pack and you can choose to do a recurring scheduled delivery or just the one time. Once you place your order you can go into your plan and change around any meals you don’t want by adding more of a certain meal or picking different ones all together. I really liked this part of it. I could go and choose exactly what I wanted and how many of each meal.
For our first delivery, which was at our door by 7am on Monday morning, we ordered salmon with broccoli and cauliflower rice and 2 ancient grain vegetable bowls. They were PHENOMENAL. The quality and freshness of the food was amazing and the taste was fantastic. We basically had super healthy restaurant quality food delivered to our door and it took me all of 5 minutes to prepare dinner. It was a dream come true. On Wednesday night, we put the cooler bag outside our door to trade for our next Thursday delivery. Right on schedule, the next delivery was waiting at our door Thursday morning. I had picked a meal called brunch in a bowl and an Asian chicken and quinoa salad. We had the for dinner that night and they were both fantastic and so easy. I can see myself getting addicted to this service.
They also have some other exciting additions to the process. They updated the site for checking for macros at the menu level – whatever menu you’re checking out, you can now see calorie and macro information for every meal all in one spot. They have a new Macro-Balance filter: It shows all meals that have <20g of fat, >40g of carbs and >30g of protein for people who are macro trackers. Also, they just launched a Vegetarian filter for LA and have added more plant based meals.
